SYDNEY, Dec 2 AAP - Deputy president of the NSW upper house Kayee Griffin has announced
she will not contest the 2011 state election, making her the 17th Labor MP to announce
they will retire at the March poll.
Ms Griffin announced her decision in parliament on Thursday night, after wishing her
colleagues in the Legislative Council a happy new year.
"I will not be here in the next term of the parliament," Ms Griffin told the upper house.
"I will not be recontesting the next election.
"I have valued the time I have spent in this place and I will reflect on this chapter
in my life with fond memories."
Ms Griffin was elected to parliament in 2003 and has been deputy president of the upper
house since November last year.
She is the 17th Labor MP to announce their retirement at the March election, with former
