FED: Beazley reiterates pledge on Aboriginal health

PERTH, Aug 22 AAP - Federal Opposition Leader Kim Beazley has reiterated his promise
to reverse Australia's poor record on Aboriginal health if Labor wins the next election.

Mr Beazley today said it was up to the federal government to take a leading role in
reversing third world figures and statistics on Aboriginal health.

"I believe that within two terms of being in office I (would) reverse the third world
health outcomes that are there for Aboriginal people," Mr Beazley told ABC radio.

"It is not acceptable that, in a first world country, we have third world outcomes
for a part of our population."

Indigenous Australians experience some of the worst health rates in the world, including
a significantly lower life expectancy at birth than other Australians.
